Developing Confident, Faithful Wranglers

The Lutherans Outdoors Leadership Program is designed for young leaders looking to grow in faith, develop leadership skills, and make a lasting impact. Guided by experienced camp staff and mentors, participants will engage in hands-on leadership training, role modeling, and camp operations, all within a supportive, Christ-centered community.

This immersive program goes beyond traditional camp experiences by equipping youth with essential leadership skills through team-building exercises, problem-solving challenges, and real-world camp responsibilities. Participants will also dive into Bible study together, deepening their faith, confidence, and ability to inspire others.

By the end of the week, campers will have gained practical leadership experience, meaningful friendships, and a stronger connection with their faith—all while enjoying the adventure, fun, and community that make LOSD so special.

Family Camp

ALL AGES

The Homecoming

It’s always been a wild place. A little camp in big country where kids and staff make their own fun, create their own community, and meet the love of God head-on in the dust and wind and sky of this sacred land. It’s a simple place–bunkhouses and shower rooms, saddling your own horse and helping with dishes–definitely not fancy enough for family camp.

Which is why we are hosting our first family camp at Klein Ranch July 26-31. Join resource person and Klein alum Rev. Sarah Goldammer for an unforgettable small-group experience on the prairie. Whether you have worked at Klein, been a camper at Klein, or just wondered for years what all the stories were about, come for a week of riding and hiking, playing and relaxing, eating and visiting, and singing and worshipping together in this familiar space. The food will be great, the staff are eager to meet you, and we have just enough air-conditioning to take the edge off those hot summer afternoons.

Space is limited–five bunk rooms and two cabins–so don’t miss your chance to hang over the corral fence watching the sunset before heading to campfire with your kids in this first-of-its-kind family camp experience.

Family camp at Klein–it’s about coming home.

Adopt-a-Horse

Support Our Horses, Strengthen Our Ministry

At Klein Ranch, horses are more than just part of the experience—they are trusted companions, teachers, and partners in faith and adventure. Through our Adopt-A-Horse Program, you can play a vital role in caring for these incredible animals while supporting the life-changing experiences they help create for campers.

By adopting a horse, you help provide:

  • Nutritious feed and veterinary care to keep our horses happy and healthy.

  • Training and upkeep to ensure safe and enriching riding experiences.

  • A loving home year-round for the horses that make Klein Ranch special.

Benji

Benji

Howdy, I’m Benji! I joined the Klein Ranch family last year alongside my best friend, Bo. Before coming here, we worked as cow horses, but now we spend our days helping campers learn, explore, and grow in confidence.

At first, I was a little shy around the other horses, but now I’ve fully embraced my new herd. I love grazing in the open fields, making new friends, and of course, sticking close to Bo—we’re inseparable! If we do get separated, you might hear my funny singing voice calling for him.

Bo

Bo

Hey there, I’m Bo! You might do a double-take when you see me—people often mistake me for a cow! But I promise, I’m all horse and ready for adventure here at Klein Ranch.

I arrived at the ranch with my best friend in the world, Benji, and we do everything together. When we go on rides, we always stand side by side, which makes our humans laugh because they can share stirrups!

I love to play games and make catching me a challenge—but don’t worry, I’ll always come back for a handful of grain or a good scratch behind my ears.

Bruce

Bruce

Hey there, I’m Bruce! I may be a little shy, but don’t let that fool you—I’m as gentle and laid-back as they come. My absolute favorite thing in the world? Food! If I had a job, I’d definitely be a professional taste tester—especially for oats and sweet grass. My human friends know that a handful of oats is the best way to convince me to come in from the pasture!

When I’m not hanging out with campers, you’ll find me with my best friends, Sir and Lemon. We do everything together—rolling in the dirt, grazing on the best alfalfa, and enjoying life on the prairie.

I love bright colors, especially red—the color of my saddle blanket! But nothing beats the beautiful prairie landscape with all its greens, purples, and yellows. It’s my favorite place in the whole world, and I’m so grateful to call Klein Ranch home!

Stormy

Stormy

Hi there! Yep, you guessed it—I’m back! It’s me, Stormy, and this summer, I’m officially a full-time Klein Ranch camp staff! No more loaner status for me—I’m here to stay!

I’m one of those “kids” who got more camp-sick than home-sick—I just couldn’t wait to get back to the prairie, the campers, and all the fun that comes with being a Klein Ranch horse. Now that I’m here full-time, I’m ready to ride, explore, and help campers grow in confidence and faith.

I can’t wait for another amazing summer—yee-HAW!!!

Beeves

Beeves

Hey there, I’m Beeves! You won’t have any trouble spotting me—I stand tall and proud in the herd. But if you’re trying to catch me in the pen, you’d better be quick and sneaky because I love a good game of keep-away! If you’re lucky, a treat might convince me to come over.

Once you do catch me, take an extra moment to give me some ear scratches—those are my favorite! When we hit the trails, get ready for some fun rides because I love to lead the way. When we trot uphill, hold on tight—I’m fast, and I like to be the first one to the top!

My stride is unique and exciting, making loping with me a one-of-a-kind experience. As a leader, I always make sure my riders get the best views of camp from the front of the line.

Lady

Lady

Hi everyone! Lady here—standing tall, alert, and ready for action! If you’re looking for a reliable, focused, and eager horse, I’m your girl. But don’t be surprised if you see my best friend, Pino, goofing around nearby—she’s always trying to distract me (sheesh!).

Even though we’re opposites, we’ve been best friends for years, and we do everything together. So when you and your best friend come to Klein Ranch, maybe you can ride us side by side—because just like you, we’re always together!

Diesel

Diesel

Hey there, I’m Diesel! I love Klein Ranch, and I’m so glad I get to call this place home. My good friend Sir and I came to camp together our first summer, and we’ve been here ever since. We used to live just east of Mobridge, so Klein Ranch wasn’t too far from home. At first, I was a little nervous about the move—loading onto that truck was tough! But with a little coaxing, I leaped, and let me tell you—I’m so glad I did!

Now, one of my absolute favorite things about camp is going on rides—ALL the rides! But the best one? The north pasture. There’s this incredible hill where, when you reach the top and look out over the prairie, you can see a beautiful river winding through the valley below. It’s a breathtaking view—and one I hope you’ll come to see for yourself next summer!

Eloise

Eloise

Hey there, I’m Eloise, but you can call me Ellie! I may be short, but I’ve got a big personality and plenty of attitude to make up for it. My favorite activity? Eating. All day, every day, out in the pasture. You’ll usually find me hanging out with my brother, Sonny, and my stepmom, Chicory, munching on whatever delicious grass I can find.

When I’m out on a ride, you’ll spot me rocking my pretty pink attire—because even a hardworking ranch horse needs to look fabulous! Just a little warning: Since I love to snack so much, I’m not exactly in peak athletic shape—so if we’re trotting up a hill, you might hear me grunting and groaning a little. But don’t worry, I like to blame it on the rider rather than my own snack habits.

If you ride me, keep an eye out—I may be short, but if I can fit under a low tree branch, I’m going under! Watch your head! Oh, and if I see an open gate, I’m going as close as possible—so watch your feet, too!

Gunner

Gunner

Hey there, Gunner here! I’m so excited that you’re a friend of Klein Ranch! I just arrived last summer, and let me tell you—I LOVE this place. Every day, my friends and I get to take campers, advisors, and staff out on amazing rides to explore places you’d never see from a car window.

We ride through breathtaking prairies, valleys, and my favorite spot—the river! There’s tall grass down by the water, and I like to play pranks and hide in it—it keeps my riders on their toes! If you haven’t guessed from my picture, I’m a bit of a prankster, and I love keeping things fun and exciting.

The best part about camp? It’s a place where everyone can be themselves. Here at Klein Ranch, we’re all welcomed, loved, and encouraged to shine as the amazing individuals God created us to be—and that is awesome!

Pino

Pino

Hey everyone, Pino here! If you’re looking for me, I’m probably goofing off and keeping things interesting—it’s what I do best! My best friend Lady is always focused and ready to go, but I like to keep her on her toes with a little fun and mischief. She may roll her eyes at me, but we’ve been inseparable for years, and that’s just how we work!

If you and your best friend come to Klein Ranch, maybe you can ride us together—because just like you, we stick together no matter what! Whether it’s hitting the trails, exploring the prairie, or just sharing a snack, Lady and I are always side by side.

Sir

Sir

Hey there, I’m Sir! If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m one of the tallest horses at Klein Ranch—so tall that my riders need a stool to hop into the saddle! It always makes me chuckle, but hey, being big comes with big responsibilities—like being the lead horse on trail rides! I take my leadership role seriously and love showing campers the best trails, prairies, and views around Klein Ranch.

Now, let’s talk about my favorite thing—OATS! I’ll do just about anything for a handful of oats, some sweet yellow grass, or a fresh bite of alfalfa. Oh, and if you have a peppermint? Instant best friends. My two pasture buddies, Bruce and Lemon, are always on the hunt with me for the best plant snacks in the fields.

One thing I have to watch out for is my fair nose getting sunburnt on the prairie. Luckily, my kind human friends make sure to put sunscreen on my face, and I appreciate their help.

But my favorite thing in the whole world? Klein Ranch! I love being around the campers, exploring the beautiful prairie, and spending time with my best horse friends. Life here is pretty amazing, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Sonny

Sonny

What’s up, I’m Sonny—and if you didn’t already know, I’m the coolest horse in these pastures. You’ll usually find me hanging out with my sister Eloise and step-mom Chicory, munching on grass and keeping an eye on my herd. I’m very protective of Eloise, so the other horses tend to give me my space—and honestly, I don’t mind!

Now, let’s talk about style—my favorite color is green, which is why I proudly sport a green saddle pad when I’m out on rides. If you see me and wonder where all my hair went, don’t worry—I lose a lot of it in the summer, so I rock a short mane and a stubby tail. It’s just my look!

I like to keep things interesting—if my ride gets a little boring, I might just grab part of my bridle and play with it to pass the time. But be warned—loud noises spook me sometimes, and I might jump a little if I hear something unexpected. And if we have to trot up a hill, don’t expect me to be in the lead—I’m not in a hurry, and I’m not in shape for all that extra effort!

Todd

Todd

Hey there, I’m Todd, and let me tell you—I feel so lucky to be at Klein Ranch! My journey here wasn’t easy, but it led me to a place where I get to make a difference in the lives of so many campers.

Before Klein Ranch, I was a barrel racing and cutting horse, spending my days flying around rodeo arenas. But one day, coming around a barrel, I felt a sharp pain and collapsed. My rider was just as shocked as I was. She took such good care of me, wrapping me up, bracing my leg, and taking me to my favorite vet for surgery. They worked hard to reattach my torn tendon, and after months of rehabilitation, I was finally well enough to get back to training. But something had changed—my heart just wasn’t in it anymore.

I sure miss my old rider, but now, at Klein Ranch, I get to meet so many amazing campers, and that makes my heart full again! My favorite thing? Helping nervous riders who, on Sunday, aren’t sure about horses but by Thursday are riding confidently—even on my very tall back and despite my wonky leg!

Yep, my tendon healed, but it turned a little, so I walk a bit funny. But don’t worry—I can still walk, trot, and lope—just not at rodeo speeds! And honestly, I wouldn’t trade my job now for anything. Seeing kids grow in confidence, faith, and love for horses makes every step worth it.

Levi

Levi

Hey there, I’m Levi! I arrived at Klein Ranch in the winter of 2021, and let me tell you—this place is a dream come true! After spending my whole life near the Twin Cities, I finally get to experience the wide-open sky, rolling prairies, and endless trails that make Klein Ranch so special.

I’ve heard that nothing compares to a long ride across the open prairie with campers, and I can’t wait to hit the trails with you! Every day here is an adventure, and I’m so excited to be part of this amazing herd, incredible landscape, and faith-filled community.
