Klein Ranch Adopt-A-Horse Program

Join us in supporting the ministry of Klein Ranch through this year’s Adopt-A-Horse Program.

Even though Klein Ranch is a summer-only camp, we continue to care for our four-legged friends year-round. If you wish to increase your adoption gift, additional funds go towards replacing feed bunks & adding over-the-fence feed buckets in cases of horse isolation. Thanks again for caring for our horses! You can choose to adopt a particular/favorite horse or you can adopt any available horse, the choice is yours ~ thank you & happy trails!

Horse adoption fees are $100 per horse.

Horse #1 - Benji

+ Read bio

Howdy, my name is Benji! I work here at Klein Ranch. I came here early last year with my best friend Bo. We used to be cow horses before we came here! At first I was pretty shy of the other horses, but I slowly got more comfortable and joined the herd! I’m a sweetheart who loves grazing in the fields, and hanging out with Bo. We are inseparable! When we do get seperated, I have the funniest singing voice! Thank you for sponsoring me and all my horsey friends this summer! Happy trails!

Horse #2 - Bo

+ Read bio

Hello, my name is Bo! When people see me, they usually get confused and think I’m a cow! I’m still pretty new to the ranch, and I came here with my best friend in the entire world! His name is Benji! We do everything together! When we go on rides, we have to stand right next to each other. It makes our humans happy and laugh because they can share stirrups! I love to play games, and run around whoever is trying to catch me! But I’ll always give in, and come back if grains are involved, or even just scratches behind my ears! Thank you for sponsoring me and all my horsey friends this summer! Happy trails!

Horse #3 - Bruce

+ Read bio

Hello, I’m Bruce! I am shy sometimes but I’m very gentle and laid back. I LOVE to eat lots of food. My favorite snacks are oats and sweet grass! My human friends like to bribe me with oats when they want me to come in from the pasture. I think if I were to have a job, it would be a professional food taste tester! When I am not hanging out with the kids who come to camp, I am hanging out with my two best friends Sir and Lemon. We do everything together like rolling in the dirt and finding the best patches of alfalfa to eat! My favorite color is red because that is the color of my saddle blanket. There are also so many beautiful colors out in the pasture and I love looking at all the greens, purples, yellows, etc. of all the plants scattered around the prairie. The prairie is my favorite place in the whole world and that is why I love being a Klein Ranch horse! Thank you so much for sponsoring me, I really appreciate your kindness!

Horse #4 - Stormy

+ Read bio

Hi there! Yep you got it, “I’m baaack!” This is Stormy, but this summer, I’m full time Klein Ranch camp staff! No more loaner status for ME! I’m one of those “kids” who got more “camp sick” than “home sick”…I just couldn’t wait to get back to Klein Ranch! I’m super excited to be at Klein Ranch full time…yee HAW!!!

Horse #5 - Beeves

+ Read bio

Hey there, I’m Beeves. I stand tall so you should easily be able to pick me out of the group. I like to play keep-away in the catch pen, so you’d better be sneaky when you try to catch me! If you do really want to catch me quick, a treat sometimes will work. Once you get me in the stall to saddle up, make sure to take an extra minute to give me some scratches around my ears, because those are my favorite! When we’re out on a ride and start going up a hill at a trot, watch out and hold on, because I am fast and will try to be the first one up. When we lope, pay attention to my stride, because I have a unique gait that is lots of fun for my riders! I like to be a leader, so if you ride me you’ll be one of the first ones in line. I make sure you can get the best views of camp that way! Thank you for caring for me and helping me out this summer, I hope you can come visit me soon!

Horse #7 - Diesel

Hi,, my name is Diesel. I LOve Klein Ranch! My good friend Sir and I came to camp together our first summer and we’ve been at Klein Ranch for several years now. We used to live east of Mobridge, so pretty close to Klein Ranch. Our mom thought it would be good for us to start off going to camp pretty close to home and I’m SO glad she did. I was a bit nervous at first and I felt a bit homesick as we were loading up the truck to come (I really didn’t want to get in but with a little bit of coaxing, I got in and I’m so glad that I got over my nervousness. One of my favorite parts of camp is to go riding. I love to go on the rides, ALL the rides if I can, but especially in the north pasture. There is a great hill that when we get to the top of that hill and look across the prairie, you look down into the valley and this river runs through the valley and it is just so cool! I hope you’ll be able to come out and see it next summer and go riding with me. Thank you, for helping us stay healthy this summer, it sure means a lot to us.

Horse #8- Eloise

+ Read bio

Hi, my name is Eloise. Some like to just call me Ellie for short. I am a short Curly with lots of attitude. My favorite activity is to eat all day in the pasture. I can usually be found hanging out with my brother Sonny and my step-mom Chicory. When I am out on a ride you can see me in my pretty, pink attire! Since I like to eat all day, I’m not in the best shape, when we trot up a hill I usually making some grunting noises, but don’t worry it’s mostly not because someone is on my back, although I do like to blame that so it isn’t all due to my eating habits. If you are going to ride me you have to be careful, as you see I am short so if I can fit under the tree, I am going so you might get a branch or two in the face if you don’t watch out. Another thing I think is really fun is when I see a gate open, I like to go around it as close as possible so watch your feet! Thank you for caring for me and helping me out this summer, I hope you can come visit me soon!

Horse #9 - Gunner

Hi there, Gunner here! I am so excited that you are a friend of Klein Ranch! I just came to Klein Ranch last summer and I just LOVE this place. At Klein Ranch my friends and I take a group of campers, their advisors and the staff out on rides every day and show them all these really cool places that you can’t see from a car window. We ride through some gorgeous prairies, valleys and my favorite spot to ride is down by the river in really tall grass, I like to play pranks on that tall grass and play hide and seek! You may have guessed by my picture, I’m a bit of a prankster! Camp is a great place to let your personality shine through, we are all welcomed to explore who God created us to be, and that is aweSOME! Thank you for sponsoring me and helping Klein Ranch out this summer.

Horse #11 - Sir

+ Read bio

Hi, I’m Sir! My human friends like to talk about how big and tall I am. It is so funny because everyone has to use a stool to be able to get up on my saddle! When we go out on trail rides I get to be the lead horse! I like to be a good leader, and it is the perfect job for me! The humans love to bribe me with oats. I LOVE OATS! My other favorite foods are yellow sweet grass, alfalfa, and peppermints. Me and my two best friends, Bruce and Lemon, are really good at finding the best patches of plant snacks in our pasture! I have to be careful when I am out in the prairie though because my nose gets sunburnt sometimes since I have fair skin. My human friends are really nice and put sunscreen on my face and I really appreciate the help. My favorite in the whole world is Klein Ranch because I love being around all the camp kids, I love the beautiful (and delicious) pastures we live in on the prairie, and I have really great horse friends to play with! Thank you so much for sponsoring me, I really appreciate your kindness!

Horse #12- Sonny

+ Read bio

What’s up, I’m Sonny. If you don’t know already, I’m the cool horse around these pastures. I eat a lot of grass out in the pasture with my sister Eloise and step-mom Chicory. The other horses don’t like to come around me much because I am very protective of Eloise. My favorite color is green so when I’m stuck out on a ride, at least I get to have a green saddle pad. I can be sensitive when it comes to noises, they spook me easily and I jump a little. When you see me you may wonder where all my hair is, well in the summer I tend to lose some hair and so I have a stub for a tail and barely any mane. If you are riding me and you notice my bridle looks a little off, it’s okay, I like to put an extra part of it in my mouth and play with it on those long, boring rides. If we have to trot up a hill, don’t expect me to be in the front, or trot the whole time; you are heavy and I am not in the right shape for all this trotting all the other horses like to do. Thank you for caring for me and helping me out this summer, I hope you can come visit me soon!

Horse #13 - Todd

+ Read bio

Hi there, my name is Todd. I have been at Klein Ranch for a few years now I can't tell you how lucky I am to be HERE! You see I used to be a barrel and cutting horse, so I spent a lot of time at A LOT of rodeos....but then one day I was coming around my barrel and there was so much pain I fell to ground, my rider was as surprised as I was. She wrapped me up, put a brace on my leg and took me to my favorite vet, they did surgery to reattach the tendon that I tore. I did months of rehabilitation and therapy. I got well enough that I went to work on getting my time down on the barrels again, but my heart just wasn't in it like it was before the accident. I sure miss my owner. But at Klein Ranch, I get to meet SO many people and my favorite part is making kids who are a bit nervous of horses on Sunday and Monday but then by Thursday feeling confident, even on my very tall back and with my wonky leg. The surgery went well, but the tendon turned a bit, so I walk a bit funny, but I can still walk, trot and lope....just not at the speeds I did at the rodeo grounds! Thank you for sponsoring me this summer, and sponsoring my horse friends at Klein Ranch. It's so weird to not have campers this summer, but we will be ready for summer 2021!

Horse #14 - Levi

Hi, I'm Levi! I came to Klein ranch in winter 2021. I am excited to see wide open sky & landscapes after living close to the Twin Cities my whole life! I hear there is nothing like wide open prairie rides with campers at Klein Ranch!
